Power and Handling

While the Kona’s base power plant is a 147-horsepower 2.0L inline-4 engine, the N Line and Limited get a 190-horsepower 1.6L turbo inline-4 that develops 195 lb-ft of torque. The latter pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission instead of the Intelligent Variable Transmission that the 2.0L distributes its power through. Either powertrain comes with multiple drive modes and the option of a robust HTRAC all-wheel drive system.
With its small size and low base curb weight of just over 3,000 pounds, it’s not surprising that the Kona is easy to handle. What makes it truly satisfying to drive, however, is its refined suspension: a MacPherson strut front suspension and torsion beam rear suspension. For added performance while off-roading, AWD models use an independent multi-link rear suspension.

Exterior

Compared with last year’s model, the new Kona looks even more futuristic with its unique LED headlight and taillight that come in the form of a bar stretching across the width of the vehicle. Its trapezoidal front grille and beautifully sculpted fenders further set it apart from the crowd. The performance-oriented N Line model features a dual-tipped exhaust system, exclusive N Line badging, and gloss black side mirror covers.
Buyers can choose to have their Kona’s body finished in vibrant colors like Neoteric Yellow and Soultronic Orange. They can also go for a sleek duotone look by leaving the roof black and pairing it with Atlas White or Ultimate Red.

Passenger Cabin

The Kona’s increased wheelbase has translated to a more spacious cabin than the previous generation. Passengers will enjoy 41.7 inches of legroom in the front and 38.2 inches of legroom when seated in the rear. Just like the exterior, the interior has an eye-catching, future-forward design. Plus, most trims offer dual-zone climate control, ambient LED lighting, heated front seats, and an 8-way power driver’s seat.

Infotainment

A responsive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is present on every Kona, providing standard support for wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, HD Radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Each row has a set of two USB ports, and there’s standard Bluetooth audio streaming. N Line and Limited models get a cutting-edge 8-speaker Bose premium audio system.
